The Tragic History Behind Blue Cove Hideaway Blue Cove Hideaway was once a hidden gem tucked away in an abandoned, water-filled rock quarry in Tennessee. Owned by Charles Womac, the site became a popular destination for campers and swimmers looking for an off-the-grid escape. Womac never charged an entry fee—he simply accepted donations from those who visited. One of the hideaway’s main draws was a homemade platform perched atop a 30-foot bluff, where visitors would take daring leaps into the deep blue water below. But the thrill came at a cost. In 2015, tragedy struck when a 31-year-old man jumped from the platform and never resurfaced. His body was later recovered. Just a year later, a second man, 25 years old, also drowned after diving from the same spot. His body, too, was later found by local deputies. Despite the heartbreaking accidents, Womac wanted to keep the hideaway open. But in 2018, the McMinn County Circuit Court ruled the site a public nuisance, placing a permanent injunction on the property and officially shutting down Blue Cove Hideaway for good.
