@relationshipswithaly: I’ve heard this phrase COUNTLESS times in my life as a therapist & friend. “It’s so much easier when they’re gone.” Almost always this is a tired, stressed out mom whose husband has just gotten home and now she’s doing triple the work trying to offload some of her tasks to him and then feeling the need to re-do them all when he starts “doing it wrong.” Today, I wanted to share a different take. Maybe it’s not always easier when they’re gone for the reasons that we think. I know that in my relationship, the reasons it’s easier are the ones I outlined in this reel. Whatever the reasons, PLEASE don’t use this phrase as a weapon to hurt your partner. It’s never helpful and almost never fair. Instead, share where you’re at with “I statements” and ask for support sincerely and kindly. If you need help, comment FREEBIE for my free relationship check-in guide that couples use to get on the same page and prevent resentment. Disclaimer: IG is not therapy. No it’s so much easier because I don’t have to clean up after him or tolerate his moods all the time. Nothing is done when he is here bc I have to attend to his needs.

I felt more comfortable and whole when she was gone. No more nasty criticisms, comments or complaints. Busy, and no one calling me “lazy “

It's easier because we can eat what we want, when we want. Less grumpiness and conflict are nice too.
