I cant tell if he is praising it or criticizing it. But Herculean heroes are an ancient story telling mechanic. Achilles, Superman, Kratos, Hulk. The “brute hero” isnt new or a bad thing.

All fiction is ultimately wish fulfilment. Reacher books are the only thrillers I enjoy. I find it reassuring to know he’s gonna beat up the bad guys at the end.

I recommend reading the first few books so you can see how much he uses his brain, mathematics, and logic and combines them with his training and experiences. He also needs the help of others often.

also ... reacher's often up against massive bureaucratic machines, backed by huge operations, that are in the composite much larger than he is. framing it as big man beats small man is reductive.

While I get that I'm not the target demo for this show I gave it a shot in seasons one and two but just found it so cheesy and far-fetched that it was almost unwatchable.
