@kirstonthebrightside: Replying to @biker bitch Get ready with me while I tell you about my rare genetic condition called Fraser Syndrome, which has meant countless surgeries, and is the reason why I look ‘different’. I often get told ‘it’s what’s inside that counts’. I know this is usually from a place of kindness, where people want me to know they see beyond my visible difference, to the strong, bubbly person I am (wow really blowing my own trumpet 🎺 😂) However, I think those ‘inside’ attributes are not in spite of what I look like on the ‘outside’, but because of it. Each scar and visible difference tells a story of what I’ve been through, and how I’m still pushing my body to keep going each day, to do life my way, and celebrate any achievements. I am all too aware that my disability is the very first thing people see when they look at me, and it’s the first thing they hear when I speak.
