🎊HAPPY EMANCIPATION DAY🎊 ✨️Today marks 39 years since Emancipation day was declared a public holiday in Trinidad and Tobago. Although sprouted from a dark history, the abolishment of slavery happened 150 years before the declaration. In the year 1838, slavery was abolished. All former slaves moved away from the plantations and settled in villages nearby such as Belmont, laventille and many others.Freedom was achieved finally and an end to a very horrific part of human history. On August 1st,1985, it was declared a holiday and acknowledged as a reminder of the trials faced by Africans in our country. 🪇🪘How is it celebrated here? A procession is held where people of all races but mostly of African descent walk in remembrance of this day, singing, dancing and playing instruments. It then leads to a very prominent Emancipation village set up at the Queen's park savannah in Port of Spain. This village shares in cultural performances, and vendors who specialize in things relating to the culture, whether it be art, clothing or food.It is a reminder of where African people have come from, their heritage and their ancestors.Such a beautiful festival is celebrated by all in Trinidad and Tobago of every descent as we acknowledge our country's history and the journey of our fellow brothers and sisters. It is also a valuable educational experience as we can learn more about the African contributions to our 'melting pot' Trinbagonian culture. 🎊🪘 Masala Entertainment wishes the nation,a Happy Emancipation day!🪘🎊 🔗 Stay tuned to #masalaentertainment for the latest in Entertainment news, upcoming events and new music releases 🎶 🔗#masalaentertainment #fyp #fypviral #foryoupage #music #happyemancipationday 🇹🇹🇹🇹
