We got my Granny the battery operated cat. When you pet it, it meows, rolls over, licks it's paw. she would just talk to it, keep it on her lap and pet it.

The most important thing you can do for anyone with dementia is see things from theor reality - don’t try to force her to do it your way. Just let her do whatever she wants to do as long as it’s safe
