If it’s not load bearing I’d remove the middle piece also so it has no obstructions…. Bifold door were probably the most horrible home design

I’m an interior designer and what might be helpful is to get curtains installed that roll very easily on a track installed inside the closet on the facia piece… That way you don’t have to stare at it.

You see the top rack of clothes you have there. You can have somebody redesigned the top rack where it comes down with a pole, and if his clothes is up there, he could just pull a pole

You can put curtains up also, so when you want it to look nice you can close them but otherwise they’re out of the way

If you decide to go with curtains, remote curtain openers are a nice option.
