Yes the baby is scared. But this is her teaching her child how to save himself that is needed when having a pool in your yard. Just imagine the door left open by accident he walk to look at the water and falls in, can’t save himself and drown. But with this he will know what to do.

Dont do this to your Kids! He could inhale water and drown even if his mother is standing next to him. (dry drowning) Futhermore, it has never been scientofically proven that this method can save live. But parents could be lulled in false sense of security and thus be less vigilant. Proper baby swimming lessons where children are slowly introduced to water, are much safer. This Method can also traumatize children. Of course it depends on the child. But if you have a sensitive child, at best, the child is afraid of water, at worst it develops attachment problems with its parents because they just stand by and don't help while the child is terrified to death.

That poor child. As a baby and preschool teacher, I can tell you this isn’t just bad practice but down right cruel. I understand the need to teach children to be safe in the water but there are safer and kinder ways to achieve the same results.
