(1/2)I have actually had great success with Arestin in patients with more plaque based perio. I have patients who no matter what don’t want to change their homecare and tell me they will never floss.

The American Academy of Periodontology recommends systemic abx for gen Perio w sig bone loss per DOCTOR’s discretion, spec stage III & IV Perio, refractory Perio and pts w conditions like diabetes,etc

Our mouth has more to do with gut health then anything else. It is part of the gut. Disrupted gut microbiome= perio. Takes the gut over a year to recover from just one weeks worth of antibiotics. No!

They gave me 2 courses of antibiotics for a gum abscess!! but I did get a root canal done ! But idk antibiotics didn’t do much 😂

I’ve had a single spot on my gums draining minimal pus for over a month now and my perio refuses antibiotics.. I’m glad but also anxious. Doing antibacterial mouthwash hoping for the best lol

Hi. I have deep gum pockets that get inflamed and really sore when food gets in so I discovered that chewing an antibiotic which I was prescribed so it gets in these holes gives instant relief. So far doing that with oral hygiene seems to be healing them.

Yea no way —- and I absolutely hate arestin! In some very very rare cases I can get on board with metro in combo with amox for one round if there’s a lot of pus around multiple teeth, but again rare

Systemic antibiotics has impact on the WHOLE system and hasn't been proven to be specifically effective for oral disease. Most pts respond to good SRP and good HC.
