The war on black men and the family in this country has been raging since the origin of this country. Historically black families were ripped apart through slavery, given white men's last names. After slavery's abolition, segregation continued for another 100 years with black people treated as second class citizens and black families being denied the right to buy land, own property or build generational wealth. Then the government redlined neighborhoods to reinforce segregation. Integration efforts into schools and better education were continually refused. When black people began to build generational wealth in many areas, they were bombed, lynched, shot, and their businesses and wealth were destroyed (e.g. the Tulsa race massacre.) The civil rights movement began and this was also when mass incarceration began. White and black people alike were protesting unjust laws by breaking them (e.g. Rosa Parks). Almost every major black male civil rights leader was murdered by the government for fighting to protect their families from police brutality. This included black civil rights leaders that were completely non violent like MLK. (Fact: His family sued their government for his death and won.) The government also introduced crack cocaine into black neighborhoods and then prosecuted crimes of crack at 100 times the rate of cocaine. Mass incarceration began modern slavery outsourcing labor for slave wages. People in prison work for 15 cents an hour and privatized prisons make money off of black bodies. The more you know. Bless these children.
