I disagree with the idea that a cheap theater could not work in this day and age. Lots of people love going to the theater but the prices are RIDICULOUS .

Stop Taking Nonsense :
My local chain has $5 (or maybe it’s $6 now?) Tuesdays to fill the gap left by closing of second run theaters. Works for all titles but 3D and large format.

Nolan can’t even get it in his contract anymore that a movie has to stay in theaters so many days. Oppenheimer was the last picture on that deal and they won’t give that perk back to him for sure

I just don’t want to sit in a big room with other people. I’d much prefer just to sit on couch in front of my own big screen and surround sound.

Smaller movies only stay in theaters for like a week now. If I hadn't gone to see anora opening weekend, I would have had to wait for it on vod.

We used to have two theaters. One played all the big blockbusters, the other played the smaller Indyish type of movies and second run. Now we only have one & those smaller movies just to make it here

With big TVs being cheap. And having a subscription service. It’s easier to just stay home then going to a theater with people talking and being on their phones

$100 mil+ budgeted movies should not cost the same as $5 mil budgets. I don’t go to a restaurant an expect everything to be same price. More tix sold means more soda and popcorn sales too

Sean baker should have had a intamacy coordinator and you never question his continued exploitation of a demographic At some point his poverty porn is exhausting, also how do his films cost so little , he must be exploiting labour somewhere , whether it’s casting real people who don’t get paid properly

We can bemoan the current state of things, or just accept the new normal. The cost relative to the value of going to the movies isn’t there anymore. There’s too many viable alternatives.

I actually think there’s an extremely viable business model for non-new releases if you programmed a mix of second run and repertory fare, especially at a sub-$10 ticket. Some theaters do but not many

like combine a full candy store with the second run MT or bring in food trucks F/Sa/Su- large merch/gift shop selection etc

There’s just no reason to see it in a room full of noisy strangers eating pizzas and nachos and talking unless it’s like a big 70 mm IMAX or something. A big home TV is a more “theatrical” experience.

I think there’s some room for growth for experiential theater experience. Making movies more communal for audiences - almost like cafes. Only way to entice people to go I think

Focus on good food and play second run or classic movies.
