These deep-sea hunters usually roam depths of 150 to 500 meters, far beyond where most divers ever venture. But here, in Malapascua, Philippines, they rise from the abyss to visit Kimud Shoal, a rare cleaning station perfectly placed near deep water where tiny cleaner fish remove parasites from the sharks. Waking up at 4 AM, taking a boat out under a sky still full of stars… all for a chance at this. In this moment, a thresher glided straight toward me before sweeping past Charlotte and Jose, circling once more, and then disappearing into the blue.
