Anyone ordering a $13,000 bottle of wine isn’t going to be phased by a $2,600 tip

I think the appropriate thing would be to at least tip a 100 dollars or more, but I wouldn't expect a 20%. But leaving a 20 dollar tip would also seem a little cheap to me

It’s insane that they actually convinced customers it’s our job to pay their employees

As a former server and bartender…I would never be EXPECTING a 20% tip for something like that…but if you can afford a $20k bottle of wine…that tip better pay at least half my rent🤣

You’re not entitled to any amount of tip. And if you’re upset about my comment, then make sure to tip double to make up for my lack of tipping.

There is a thing called Tip Out. Where the server pays a percentage to the bartender/host/busser. So at the very least the customer should tip that amount of an order so expensive so that the server doesn’t have to pay out of their own pocket simply cause you would be causing real financial harm to an innocent person just trying to make a living. But in my opinion they shouldn’t be ordering something like that at a restaurant and should just go straight to the distributor and avoiding places of tipping completely, it’s cheaper and less rude. But if they are able to afford that then they can definitely afford to tip.

Establishments should pay their employees livable wages. It shouldn’t be up to the consumer to pay the server’s salary. I still tip tho… but the amount depends on service. When I was server in my early 20s I did my best, but nowadays service is terrible.

I’ve had people not tip on a $30 bottle of wine. You have to do the whole song and dance with serving it at the table too. It hurt my feeling a bit

Out of curiosity during busy periods, how many tables are waiters/waitresses tending to?

There is a big controversy in my in-laws family about this among the fine wine drinkers 1 side says you tip just based off the food the other side says you tip based of the total bill...

so the thing about being a member of the wait staff is that they have to tip out a percentage of their sales at the end of the night not a percentage of what they made so they're going to have to tip¹

That’s how servers make their living. If you’re taking up a table you need to tip. If you can afford that much in wine you can afford to tip your server for taking up the table.
