My son is level 3 autistic and sure, some milestones can take longer, but that's where we as parents come in. At a certain point some things can't continue, and alternatives or redirection is needed.

It’s also really feeds into a learned helplessness as they age. I had clients that were completely infantilized even by other staff out of ease. (and the clients were 50 year olds!)

As someone who works with young special needs children these kids are by no means incapable of learning, they are very capable but it’s on the parents to push it out of them.
