@anxiety_fitness: These “quick fixes” might actually make panic worse, and here’s why: 🍋 They only provide short-term relief Tricks like biting a lemon or holding ice can calm you briefly, but they don’t solve the root cause. 🚫 They reinforce the idea that panic is dangerous When you try to stop panic, you’re telling your brain it’s a real threat that must be urgently avoided, which fuels future panic attacks and intolerance of symptoms. 🪢 You become dependent, and may not always have something handy If you rely on ice, candy, or lemons, you’ll feel even more anxious when you don’t have them nearby. ⏸ They stop you from truly overcoming panic attacks by learning that they are safe Allowing panic to happen—and discovering you’re still safe—teaches your body there’s no true danger. I learned from therapy and my own journey that these “safety behaviors,” while helpful in the moment, were actually trapping me in more anxiety over time. The hardest (but most crucial) part of therapy was stopping them altogether. That’s when I truly learned panic wasn’t a sign of impending doom, and my constant attacks finally began to fade. There is definitely a place for grounding exercises when anxiety is high or to practise self-regulation, but you don’t necessarily need external objects to do them. You can use your senses and things immediately around you (like the 5-4-3-2-1 exercise). As a guy who’s suffered since I was a teenager it’s sad to say but u just HAVE to accept it stop dwelling on it ( I know it’s hard ) just stop trying to think of ways to “stop” it from happening

I also experience random panic attacks, esp when I’m outside/crowded place. I get dizzy, fidgety, zone out, and feel like I might collapse at any moment. But I start feeling better once I get home 🥺
