Your eyes receive a spectrum with two distinct peaks of emission, and your brain interprets them as a super-saturated magenta. But with paint, things get messy. A magenta pigment works by absorbing some wavelengths and reflecting others. Ideally, it would reflect only red and blue, just like your screen emits. But real-world pigments don’t work that cleanly. Even the best magenta paint reflects a little extra—some unwanted wavelengths sneak in, usually dulling the color toward a warmer or cooler tone. A paint can only filter light from its environment, never adding wavelengths—just subtracting.
