"A victorious Putin means there's not going to be any safety in Eastern Europe for the foreseeable future," he said in a PBS News Hour interview with Amna Nawaz. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday responded to a U.S-Ukraine offer for a temporary ceasefire with demands and questions about what a 30-day pause in the war would mean. Ukraine says Putin’s words indicate he is not ready for peace. On Friday, Putin sent a message to Trump through the U.S. envoy there for peace talks, giving officials "cautious optimism" over the deal. Trump called the meeting "good and productive," saying that there's a chance the "war can come to an end."
