@mamamiaoutloud: Hugh Van Cuylenburg shared an open letter to the parents of autistic children, and the response was overwhelming. We discuss the reaction on today’s episode of Mamamia Out Loud 🎧
Yep all the above ! Seeing them on sidelines is one of the many nuances !

Why do parents think it is ok to reveal their child’s private health diagnosis to total strangers? There are many ways 2 help without invading their privacy.

so it's okay for him to hold off on talking about this, but talked about his sister's ED without her knowledge or consent? got it

or when your child realises that they're different so that's why they are left out or are bullied relentlessly. it's exhausting and heart breaking for the parent.😔

Why do we always make this so doom & gloom!!! I’m so sick of this being about the parent’s grief! My non verbal ASD adult son is bloody awesome because we embrace him as he is and we support his world, idgaf about how others view him - that’s on them. Hopefully when Hugh’s child is older, he’ll learn acceptance better, because he has a Diamond & he hasn’t realised it yet because of his overwhelming grief. Don’t grieve for a child you didn’t get - embrace the Diamond you have! ❤️

As an autistic person who is a parent to 2 autistic children this is not everyone's experience. This is clearly his grief for not having a "normal" child, it's not about his child it's about him
