Indie publishers face significant stigmas that can limit their visibility and success. This unfairly diminishes the value of high-quality books by indie voices and the incredible diversity they bring to literature. Those who have invested in professional editors, high quality illustrations and formatting and are going hard with uniqur marketing. Those who are often doing the groundwork in breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes and investing their time, money and energy into creating high quality products.  Here are the challenges indie publishers often face: Assumption - The no.1 thought is someone self published because their story was not good enough. The fact is, many self publishers break the stereotypes being catered to by traditional publishers. Perceived Lower Quality – Indie publishers are often seen as producing books with lower quality compared to traditional publishers. This is usually owning to the self published authors rarely investing in editors, illustrators and/or marketing Limited Distribution – Indie books have limited access to wider distribution channels, making them harder to find. Distributors often don't even pick up Indie books Limited Recognition – Indie authors and publishers may struggle to gain the same awards, accolades, or visibility. Many bloggers, awards and reviewers limit themselves to traditionally published book authors/publishers and don't even consider a book that is Indie-published.  🤖 As you can see, the onus does fall on us, authors/publishers, to find our target reader and create high-quality books that can compete with companies with bigger pockets. Using AI in storytelling and illustrations to produce books quickly has led to even less credibility.
