Sometimes people just aren’t suited for the role. Period.

Manage about 90 employees in one building, and recently decided to take what I deemed as my “underperformers” and put them in a position with slightly more responsibility and watched them all blossom

Sometimes they are exactly that. Underperformers. I’ve seen many times where these underperformers drag down the rest of the team because they need to be carried.

I’ve given under performers plenty of opportunities. I get a few surprises but some are just there to milk the clock and not produce.

I’ve had feedback from interviews that I always give credit to the team when I’m talking about successes, and take full responsibility for failures. Like, yup, sorry you think that’s bad.

I have let go of people three times in thirty years; that is one per decade. i live by this with my company. Cultivation is positive reinforcement. This opens the mind of a worker to listen to grow

Completely disagree. Anyone who is a bad leader is guilty of that. Anyone who is actually a good leader and good at their job doesn’t judge and actually leads their team 🤦♂️

No. My thought is always “how have I failed them. What can I do to fix this?”

Dealing with an underperforming employee today. They had 2 completely different stories from morning to the afternoon. They got caught not sticking to one story

Facts! We must always see both sides of the situation and see what their strengths are just as much as we point out flaws.

I have a coworker and about half of the team thinks poorly of him. No amount of positive enforcement is going to help.

Good in theory. Many time you’ll have a chat to find out if there is anything they need or struggle with.Set up remedial and praise good when it happens but what happens when its more bad than good

It comes down to capability and commitment. Are they underperforming because they lack capability and need support? Or is it a lack of commitment and they need direction, something to motivate them

This doesn't work in tech, especially fast moving businesses. There isn't enough time to turn people around. Brutal I know. But that's the reality.

The narrative that’s actually being created is ‘I can fix them’. You can’t. Move on.

If you dont want to be recognized as an underperformer. What are you doing to change that? Champions arent crowned for coming in last place.

as a leader, yes I notice the underperformance and focus on that, but I also notice what they do correctly or well and make sure to highlight those things during performance conversations.
