Member here: it always bugs me that the word “adieu” was used and that there were references to horses in place where they wouldn’t exist for hundreds of years. The answer I got was “that’s the closest word he was provided to translate what was meant” and “we don’t know for sure they landed in the americas” 🙄 also we casually believe they splintered off from the americas and became the pacific islanders. 😳

I think the idea is it was translated to the best understanding of those who would be reading it in the 1800s. If you inspected it under that pretense would it change your analysis? Genuine question
