Gary was a bank trader who made his profits from being part of a ‘franchise’. He was in the right place at the right time, with QE money funding him, never taking personal risks (apart from getting fired), copying the trades of others, and “lucked” out that Japan had a mega earthquake which made him his ‘prop’ money. He has allowed narcissism to parlay this into supposed God-like economist powers which he clearly does not possess.
