I do this on Toyota heads during replacement. Never had a problem and found one keeper that didn’t stay in. Glad I found it before firing it up.

Even at tdc it wouldn’t hit hard enough to even nick the piston/valve. You’d have to hit it with a sledge to hurt anything.

Not going to say it’s damaging anything or that you shouldn’t seat them but the valve definitely would hit the piston at tdc. The intake valve to piston clearance is roughly .04 in. And your smackin🤦♂️
