Looks like we need to add more sailors to those ships so we can keep the protective paint in place and prevent damaging rust and corrosion. I don’t remember the Navy ships looking this way back 80s

In the 80's our ships never looked like this. We used Red lead paint. Lead based and we painted constantly when underway

I made "Parts" for the Navy in the 80's. All products were painted "Zinc Chromate" then "Haze Gray". Standing order in the U.S. Navy was"If it moves? Salute it. i If it doesn't move? Painted It"!
