this is a very common issue with the WisePad 3 and the tap & chip Shopify knows it's an issue and has zero intention of fixing it.

You can fix it with a flat magnet from your fridge roughly the same size as a card

I would flip it so the slot faces me and if the tap doesn’t work, I’d ask kindly to grab their card to make sure it’s not metal and put it inside the machine. It’s more work but you save $50

Make a permanent note labeled on the counter with it stating if they INSERT the metal card instead of tap that they will be held liable for its replacement.
