Your brain isn’t just passively processing the world around you—it’s actively creating your reality. This process is what neuroscientists call Predictive Processing. Instead of simply waiting for sensory information to arrive from your eyes, ears, or taste buds, your brain is constantly predicting what it expects to encounter, and then checks those predictions against the actual sensory input. What’s fascinating is that your brain sends more signals down to your eyes than it receives up from them. This means when you look at something, your brain already has a model of what it expects to see, and it’s mostly confirming or adjusting that prediction. If something unexpected happens—like a random word, a surprise object, or a change in the environment—your brain has to update its map, which is why surprises catch us off guard. This predictive mechanism allows us to navigate complex environments efficiently, but it also means that perception is shaped by past experiences, expectations, and even biases. We don’t see the world as it is—we see it as our brain predicts it will be. By recognizing that our perceptions are built on predictions, we can train our brains to be more aware, flexible, and open to new experiences. How will you train your brain to see beyond its expectations? #Neuroscience #Brain #NeuroscienceFacts #MentalHealthAwareness
