Rescuing or owning guinea pigs is a responsibility. We owe it to them to give them the best life. When I rescued their Mama Fifi, she was pregnant. The uncertainty of her having complications gave me anxiety. She was unwanted like she was trash. But a close friend , who works at a vet clinic, called me and asked if I could rehome a guinea pig and I said I’d take her. She was a baby herself. I didn’t understand why her previous owner would get her pregnant and then not want to take care of her. I’ve seen horrific things on Instagram. There was one time when a mother purchased a guinea pig for a child and she let her get pregnant with her existing boar. When the sow wanted to give birth she couldn’t. She needed a c-section. The kid would post that the sow was in distress and couldn’t give birth. I begged the kid to tell his mom that she needed a C-section but she told him it would be expensive. Needless to say they let her suffer and took her to get euthanized. My heart broke for that guinea pig. If they would’ve been near me, I would’ve picked her up. Seeing situations like these made me scared that Mama Fifi might need a C-section. Therefore I had three exotic vets on call just in case. Mama Fifi did great giving birth to Nougat and Bonbon. She gave birth two weeks after I bought her home. I was so grateful for that there were no complications. If you have a pregnant guinea pig please make sure you have an exotic vet available, just in case complications arise. Do you have an exiting sow that had babies? And how did the birthing go?
