@pbsnews: Ex-NIH director and truck driver explore how to bridge divisions deepened by the pandemic Americans were sharply divided over the public health response to COVID-19, including masking, remote learning, business closures and vaccines. Five years after the start of the pandemic, Judy Woodruff sat down with two people on opposing sides of that divide trying to figure out how to move forward. It's part of her series, America at a Crossroads. #pbsnews #newshour #pbsnewshour #americaatacrossroads #covid19#politics #publichealth #covid #vaccine #vaccinemandate #nih #nationalinstituteofhealth #science

I feel like I did hear a lot that scientists were learning about this new virus and things had to be adjusted as they learned more. If you were paying attention, you understood that.

“We sat down with a career physician who helped map the human genome and went on to lead the NIH, and some guy in rural MN who has a podcast, to give their views equal weight”…

One of the problems is that we don’t know how bad things would have been without the measures that were taken. Nobody gets credit for preventing an even greater tragedy.

My mom disagreed with the recommendations. She listening to Trump. When my sister was exposed to Covid, my mom did not follow guidelines. She got it and died 14 days later.

He’s disingenuous. Acting like he just wasn’t given the right information? He doesn’t know how science works? He’s never gotten a vaccine in his life? These attitudes we intentionally manufactured

I'm sorry I still disagree with him, there WERE thousands of deaths (if not more) in the upper midwest. Many of whom I knew closely and they had horrible lonely deaths.

Hindsight is 20/20. There’s a lot of mistrust in this government bc the government doesn’t support initiatives that make our lives better, rn there’s too much incentive to enrich themselves

the pandemic isn't over and public health measures should still be occurring. The failure of the public health messages hasn't improved if we are focusing on the next before finishing the current.

Every disease has a patent, made on purpose. Then look up patent for cure, who owns it. They suppress cures. Doctors are not educated in Hollistic medicine. There are cures. Educate yourself naturally

Moral of the story: people need to stay in their lanes. If your expertise is plumbing or truck driving, please be humble enough to listen to doctors and scientists in their areas of expertise

Trump killed the trust of American people! He undermined the scientists & trump refused to wear a mask- trump had a mania episode when he was in the hospital & had to Covid but had to go joy ride!

what i don’t get is why we can’t just put trust in our scientists without a step by step explanation of how and why. why do you, a truck driver, need to know the intimate viral processes? you don’t

Nothing about the adverse side effects of the vaccine. Doctors at our hospital, who were very pro vaccine early on, became skeptic’s after young, seemingly healthy individuals, started coming in
