It's actually FERMENTED COCONUT WATER hence the US3 price which is expensive for normal coconut. Did the water have a bit of gas /ferment taste?

That sounds quite expensive in Vietnam. They didn’t do quite an extensive job. Just get the liquid out and a hole and that cost only a dollar US.

if you go to local markets in Indonesia, they do similar steps, except peeling the brown skin. BUT, that old coconut is fro cooking, not for drinks.
