i have been finding plenty of Dark silver colored tempered Arkvelds, i theorize the color changes based on the amount of power they have absorbed, since the only Arkvelds we hunt are aberrant, insane.

the reason is because of the oil pits on the ground. monsters become coated and turn black and becoming ignitable

There are some rare cases of herbivores having hyper increased Melanin, dark pygmentation of the cells, I saw a black ceratonoth once, so maybe, just maybe, that’s what’s happening here

I think its because that is a tempered one where he can look different here he is metallic black compared to bone white normal i seen this arkveld also on tempered but not on normal
