@djharringtonwriter: Taking inspiration from other books/pieces of media does NOT mean you have infringed on copyright. You cannot copyright tropes. You cannot copyright the heroe's journey. You can't copyright things like the idea of a cursed magical object (LOTR) or the fae (SJM universe) or a competition where characters must battle to the death (Hunger Games) or dragon riders (Fourth Wing), etc...... Those simply exist as storytelling devices! Plagiarism would be like if you took direct passages word for word from the source material and claimed it as your own. Plagiarism would be like if you told a story beat for beat EXACTLY like another story and claimed it as your own. Plagiarism would be like if you stole someone's entire original work and passed it off as your own, giving no credit to the creator. INSPIRATION 👏🏼 IS 👏🏼 NOT 👏🏼 PLAGIARISM 👏🏼 and if you think it is, you've not read NEARLY enough books. There's literally NOTHING new under the sun.
