@patagonia: We’ve spent the last 10-plus years finding a way to make our gear without “forever chemicals.” These synthetic compounds (usually called PFAS) help make waterproof gear work, but research now shows that manufacturing them comes with a disastrous toll on our health and the planet’s. It’s taken us trial, error and more trial, but we were committed to finding a durable, nonfluorinated alternative that could stand up to all the extreme conditions and fun we get after. Now, for Spring 2025 and beyond, all our new styles are made without intentionally added PFAS. Why does that matter? And what are we using instead? Matt Dwyer, who leads our global product footprint team, gives us a mini 101—the problem with PFAS, how our new chemistry performs and what to do with that beloved old shell that was treated with PFAS.

Your mission says “save our home planet”but Ryan Urabe lost his home. Fired after injury? That’s not justice. That’s not Patagonia.
