this truly does happen. after my grandma succumbed to cognitive decline, so many relatives that didn’t even care about her before started coming to try and take her things. my part of the family were the only ones who ever took care of her, or even talked to her.😭

My mum is one of four siblings who all lived in a different state, the same location as their parents (my grandparents). My mum was called only when her mother was close to death, and while my mum was on the plane on the way there, they’d already divided her mother’s estate. She got nothing.
