Using fabric softener is what causes this. I never used any and my 2017 ge top loader doesn’t have this issue.

tbh idk what theses comments are but me and my family have been using fabric softener for over 20 years and have had no issue, the best bet is to get a washer with a real agitator. BEST THING IN WORLD

During your rinse cycle add a little bit of pine sol, pinalin, or pine glow! It’s safe for clothes and helps disinfect and degrease! I use it in place of softener and I love it!

Just bought a home with a very similar washer. It's not dirt, it's softener build up. I disassembled the drum, soaked in vinegar and warm water, scrubbed with a little bit of dawn and it's like new!

This is common in all washers not just top loaders.The machine is not as clean as you may think unfortunately.There is a plastic tub behind the stainless drum. Plastic is porous. It will be moldy.PSA

I still have my washer from the 1970’s and I’ve never had that issue. Either I can’t see it or I’m doing something wrong 🤔

actually it's more common with front loaders and top loaders that don't have an actual agitator because this is an impeller it's basically like you took a front loader and called it's a top loader

Yup! Classic product buildup. Once a year I completely dismantle and deep clean ours. Monthly filter/drain maintenance
