earthbound rom hacker here, what happened is you experienced the game over boss event what happened is sometimes crashes can vary such as giving you a glitched title screen. with the music you 1/2

I think it might be related to the glitch where if harmful status are not enabled in the game and u die, the game over screen is all weird and all party members come back as ghosts, even ness. There’s a good video on this here

it could be the same glitch other ppl were seeing, but the emulation of the game handled it differently. A cutscene does play directly after the fight, so it's possible it corrupted that music file

Try to recreate it could be very difficult with timing ness’ death at the same time both starmen are killed. But it could be recreate easier using an emu but idk if it will have the same outcome or *

This happened to me last year, it was on an emulator for my 2Ds xl tho. The angel thing happened but they were all stacked/overlapping and the text box on the death screen had. Scarred me a lot.

Could be a mix of a frame perfect win loss glitch along with a hardware glitch. Pretty gnarly nonetheless.
