@idrisi.ensemble: Performed by @kerttu.music, this is a ‘joiku’ from The White Sea Karelia (Vienan Karjala). There are two main types of joiku: one belongs to the Sámi, an Indigenous people living across Finland, Sweden, Norway and Kola Peninsula in Russia, with their own language, shamanic traditions, and a culture centred on reindeer herding. The other, less known, comes from the Karelian people and is called kelketys - a women’s singing style that is now nearly extinct. This is from that part of Karelia that has never been part of Finland. Karelian people are their own ethnicity. Karelian language is its own language. Finnish language is its close relative.

Vienan Karjala has not never been part of Finland. Why are you then saying that this singing tradition is from Finland?
