Round 1: As of this recording, it’s a standstill in the Senate: Senators still stand around, bills are standing by, as the standstill stands to send the government into a complete standstill. What does this mean for Tennesseans? Find out on our Today In Tennessee Segment, brought to you by YOU if you want to. Details at the end of the video. Hi! I'm Daniel Wagner from the Patriot Punk Network, giving you the latest Tennessee news in 3 minutes or less. Let’s get into it! As of last night at midnight, a federal shutdown began due to stalled funding talks over ACA subsidies. For Tennesseans, ~32,500 federal workers now face furloughs, essential staff at places like Fort Campbell and TSA will work unpaid, and Great Smoky Mountains Nat Park will close visitor services. Medicaid/TennCare will continues, but SNAP/WIC may falter if the agutdown extends past ~30 days. USDA farm grants and IRS refunds also face delays. To prepare: Save 1-2 months’ expenses (which you should already have as a general rule), stock non-perishables, renew benefits early, reschedule your upcoming park visits, and monitor tn.gov or nps.gov for updates You can also contact Sens. Blackburn/Hagerty to push for a resolution. Fortunately, Tennessee’s strong state budget offers us some cushion, but a prolonged shutdown could strain local economies. In the meantime, $69 Billion of your hard earned money is on hold while our government figures out how to pull its thumb out of its ass. Round 2: For the next 30 Days the speed limit cameras you see rolling out in Memphis will be primarily for show. But after that, they have real consequences attached to them. For those who haven't noticed over the last few months, Memphis has been setting up Speed Limit Cameras in 15 locations across the city. Yesterday, they became operational, kinda. For the next 30 days they will only be issuing

For those who haven't noticed over the last few months, Memphis has been setting up Speed Limit Cameras in 15 locations across the city. Yesterday, they became operational, kinda. For the next 30 days they will only be issuing "warnings" so that drivers can acclimate themselves. After that drivers can expect a $50 fine. Unlike red light cameras that are traditionally operated by 3rd parties, these cameras will send a picture directly to a police officer who will verify you were in fact speeding before issuing the fine. Bottom Line, slow down unless you've got stacks of money you're prepared to send to the courts. Round 3: A Fentress County couple, Bucky and Heather Pierce, have just been indicted after TBI agents say they treated their elderly relatives’ bank accounts like a family ATM. The couple reportedly siphoned off thousands for their own spending sprees, racking up enough charges to score Bucky eight counts and Heather two for financial exploitation of the elderly. The authorities say when the investigation started in May, it didn’t take long for the paper trail to lead straight to the Pierces’ own pockets. I think it’s safe to say this family reunion just got a whole lot more awkward. Both are now cooling their heels in the county jail with bonds more bloated than their alleged haul—Bucky at $300,000 and Heather not far behind at $150,000. It looks like Thanksgiving dinner will have to be held over the phone this year [big shrug] That was your Tennessee news roundup for Oct 1st, 2025.
