Anuradhapura, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Sri Lanka’s most sacred and historically rich cities. As the first capital of ancient Sri Lanka, it was the heart of Theravāda Buddhism for centuries. The city is home to some of the world’s tallest and oldest stupas including the iconic Jetavanaramaya, Abhayagiri, and Ruwanwelisaya built as grand monuments of faith and architectural mastery. Anuradhapura also shelters the Sri Maha Bodhi, a direct descendant of the tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment.
