I don't know about everyone else, but I tape to the sheathing NOT the housewrap. Air and water from above can get behind housewrap.

So because stretch tape is so expensive, I use standard zip tape across the flat bottom and stretch the corners. Is that bad practice or a good idea?

Hopefully you’re trimming the exterior in PVC. That’s what I used on my house and it’s awesome.

You need to roll out or lightly scribe without tearing the tape to get proper adhesion.
