@kindofsporty: 🥴 “what did I do wrong??” Let me help ⤵️ As a beginner sometimes you’ll break the rules without realising it. And the referee’s hand signals can feel like a total enigma. Let’s cover off some of the most common FIBA hand signals you’ll see from a basketball referee. Firstly, they’ll signal to the time keeper to stop the game clock- they’ll signal with a fist ✊ if it’s for a foul call, or a palm for another reason ✋ Then they will proceed with their next signal indicating why they stopped the clock. Some common violation signals are: - travel (illegal movement with the ball) - double dribble (stopping and restarting a dribble) - carry (hand moving to the underside of the ball) - jump ball/held ball (dead ball according to jump ball) - return to backcourt (illegal crossing of centre line) - kick ball (illegal deliberate contact of ball with foot) - foul on the act of shooting (points depending on where shot was attempted) If you want a detailed explanation of any of these rules you can find them under the ‘rules’ highlight on my page.
