@eastcoastdiy: More content on Instagram at Eastcoastfloridadiy! My guess is it wasn’t sealed properly as Merbau is known to be top tier and perfect for sunny climates. Just another thing to add to my to do list! Plan on sanding and resealing to get it back to that beautiful rich tone! 🙌🏼 #disastertodreamhome

The manufacturer should replace them for free. It's only been a few months 😳

I think this is manufactures fault. I’ve got an entire deck and staircase in merbau in QLD Aus which I think would be comparible if not worse than Florida sun and it doesn’t look like this after almost 10 years

They should be coming to replace. They should know how their products hold up in every element. No reason you should be doing this after only 6 months. The solutions are just preventing the inevitable

I also agree with everyone else saying the company should come out to fix their “mistake”. It’s only been 6 months and they look like they’ve been weathered for years.

Merbau is super common in Australia, some of the harshest sun in the world. This isn't good enough at all.

Those options wouldn’t be cutting it for me. I feel like the company should fix it or make it right.

I am very surprised the company didn’t offer more than advice…. With the exposure you have on this project, not a good look for them at all!!

Merbau is used for decking in Australia. You can either oil or varnish. The timber itself will withstand many years of sun and sea without rotting. Yes Marine grade sealer would be the much better than oil. Merbau has a lot of tannins and when first installed, you need to wait 3-6 months for them to dry out before sealing. Not sure if they came sealed, but how it looks now, apart from the cracks, is normal and means it’s ready for sealing.

another factor is the salt from the ocean, it travels & is in the air. Salt will decompose this material THe sun will not do this!

If they don’t make it right, they just lost a WHOLE lot of free advertisement/potential business. Such a shame and I’d truly be livid and wanting them to completely replace it.
