Perseguido por imperialistas e reacionários, ele sofreu prisões e exílios. Na Segunda Guerra Mundial, ele liderou o Vietminh, frente única anti-japonesa e anti-francesa, com aplicação da frente popular. Proclamou a independência em 1945, declarando a República Democrática do Vietnã (RDV). Na Guerra da Indochina (1946-1954), comandou a resistência que esmagou o colonialismo francês em Dien Bien Phu, triunfando a liberdade do povo vietnamita e asiático. Ele faleceu em 1969. In the First Indochina War (1946–1954), he commanded the resistance that crushed French colonialism at Dien Bien Phu, securing the triumph of freedom for the Vietnamese and Asian peoples.
