@jpgcoaching: I’m not saying you can’t do 3 chest exercises in a single session and make good progress. I’m saying that it’s not necessary to hit the chest as a whole effectively. Some people are under the impression that if you don’t do 3+ exercises that slightly bias one division of the pec a bit more than the others that they’re missing out on chest gains which simply isn’t the case. If you enjoy a variety of chest exercises you can always do less volume per workout which will allow for a higher training frequency where you can do different movements each day. If you really want to do 3 different movements in a lift then you don’t need more than 1-2 sets per exercise. If you’re someone who does 3-4 chest exercises per session 3-4 sets per exercises then you’re doing way more than necessary and it’s likely hindering your progress. I have people who join my teams after doing programming like that who find their progress sky rockets after switching to a more moderate volume approach that allows for a higher training frequency. You don’t have to listen to me but hey if you’re not making good progress then what do you have to lose? When I was forced to take a couple weeks off, I came back feeling better and stronger overall. This showed me that I was doing too much volume before. I focus on intensity and it works great.
