China owns -850B in US bonds. If they sold 10% we’d be in soup lines.

damage is done. the world sees the US not trusting/reliant partner. countries are completely bypassing the US making their own deals with other countries so they are not reliant on the US

You're missing the main reason for the sell off. It wasn't China selling bonds or people loosing faith in the govt ability to repay. It was investors selling to cover margin call losses in equities.

Still trying to understand how people read moves like this in advance. Was this a missed opportunity, or is the next one around the corner?

What ticker do you use to track bond activity and treasury yields?

Great explanation! Can you address the speculation about whether China/Japan was dumping bonds quickly as retaliation or if it was likely instead a broad consensus of investors concerned about Us gov?

Japan just quietly changed his entire tariff strategy. And if he keeps raising Chinas tariff they will dump a ton of it and really hurt us. He’s not playing a winning hand.

Besides loans for people why does gov care about high bond rates? Cause they have to issue new ones at higher rate?
