Boy Scouts let in girls to be more competitive. Membership was declining. Also scouts in every other country allows girls so it wasn’t unusual.

Scouts is a huge pipeline for the military lol Teaching outdoor skills, how to lead, and exposure to all the merit badges gives a huge leg up. Girls have been involved in Venture teams & OA for years
