For TWO of my favorite systems… …. Go to this post on my IG and comment “MORNING” to learn how to create a morning routine system, and comment “PLAN” for our family activity and meal calendaring system. 🙌🏻 Best-selling author, James Clear, pretty much changed my life when he gave this advice: •Winners and losers have the same goals. •Achieving a goal is only a momentary change. •Goals restrict your happiness, and •Goals are at odds with long-term progress. This is why you should fall in love with SYSTEMS not goals, he says. Systems allow you to win; not goals. Systems aren’t a “momentary” win, but are a consistent daily practice that allow you to achieve the results you want, while goals are a once-in-awhile happening. If you aren’t living the life you want, you probably don’t need a better goal, but a better system. Let’s break these down. Winners and losers have the same goal: to be successful at ________ (fill in the blank). So, why does one person find success and the other doesn’t? Clearly, it’s not the goal that matters, but the system that helps them get there. Let’s say your goal is to have a successful laundry system as a mom. One mom finds success in doing the laundry; the other does not. Both moms want a working system, but only one has found success. What is the difference? The mom who finds success has a better system; not a better goal. Getting to your “goal” is only a momentary change. Let’s say you finally get around to doing the laundry after days of letting it slide. The goal of washing, drying, folding, and putting away the laundry has FINALLY been accomplished, but it’s only momentary. The next day, you’re going to have to face the same problem. This is why the secret is in the SYSTEM; not the goal. Goals restrict happiness because they are only once in a while moments in the grand scheme of day to day life. On the other hand, systems are what you are doing consistently NOW in order to get to the goal. Goals are somewhere off in the distance, while systems are in the present moment. Whenever I find myself in a downward spiral or daydreaming of “someday”, instead of focusing on the goal, I ask myself: what is a better system to achieve my goal right now? ♥️
