Guess who I met?! 🤯 This interaction is really special. ✨ When I arrived in Hawaii I received a TON of recommendations to check out Foodland for their Poke bowls (thanks btw, the poke was unreal!) So after working up an appetite photographing the shelter dogs with the Hawaiian Humane society, I walked over to Foodland to have some lunch. I got 3 bites into my poke when I spotted someone with an incredible outfit walking out of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. So I sprinted after him - and that’s when I met Kalani P’ea (@kalanipeamusic). Kalani is a three-time Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter of Hawaiian music. He has the voice and demeanour of an angel, and is super passionate about his work. He was also one of the kindest & most supportive people I’ve met so far. 🩵 I didn’t realize he’s a fan of the project, and when he told me, I was totally lost for words. 🥹 Kalani Pe’a is the embodiment of Hawaiian spirit. I spent the rest of my trip listening to his music, and consider this to be the highlight of my trip. 💙 And guess what… Yesterday he won ANOTHER GRAMMY!!! Congratulations my friend!!! 🏆 — 🎨 Creative Note I wasn’t planning on photographing people that day, so I only had my 24mm and 85mm lenses (wish I had my 35mm or 45mm!). Also… a grocery store parking lot probably isn’t the best location for portraits, but we still made it work (mostly because of how dashing he is!). If I had it my way, I’d photograph him in a SUPER scenic location, like a mountaintop, or in front of a waterfall. So Kalani, the next time you visit Vancouver let me know! We’ll do a do-over and take these portfaits to the next level 🙌 — 📍 The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Honolulu — #streetportraits #strangerproject #hawaii #streetphotography #portraitphotography #strangerportraits
