it goes deeper than that. In the comics Gotham, early in its creation, was divided up between 3(4?) wealthy families, one of them being the Waynes. Over generations the people of Gotham became increasingly poor while an elite class hoarded the city's wealth. Gotham's poor, becoming desperate, turn to things like experimental drugs and surgery or organized crime. To make things worse, extensive lobbying on behalf of the Arkham family meant that Gotham's rampant mental health crisis went unchecked. If Bruce redistributed his wealth to the people of Gotham and provided access to healthcare, social safety nets and maybe a UBI, there would be no need for Batman. Anyway, you wanted a frosty and a medium fry?
