This is low-key how I feel when playing my flute. We had an award ceremony and I didn’t receive the top band student award. What’s funny is that I worked 10x harder than the person who did. I constantly challenged myself and auditioned for solos and different parts, even having a duet with someone for our honour band performance. The person who was chosen wasn’t even qualified for honour band but the teacher had pity on them and let them into the program anyway. I was the leader of my section, helping other flutes and exemplifying leadership qualities whereas the other person wasn’t. They didn’t even practice. They left their instrument at school while I put in hours and hours of work just for it all to be unrecognized. In terms of behaviour I was always respectful, quiet while the conductor was speaking, and helped clean up after practice. The other person? They constantly talked during class and didn’t help clean up after practice. My attitude was even more positive showcasing determination and passion whereas the other person wasn’t interested and didn’t even showcase a positive attitude towards band. Im just upset because I worked really hard and all the work went unrecognized. I mean what does that person know about having a solo that if you made one minor error it will ruin the entire piece? Having to practice for hours and hours? Participating in a duet with someone else from another school for honour band, afraid that if you played slightly out of sink you’ll ruin the entire piece? I even got top band student for term two and three, which is two thirds of the year while they didn’t get and award for ANY term. I play my flute exceptionally well, going above and beyond expectations. I guess my maximum was just someone’s minimum.
