@pbsnews: Why patients are getting hit with surprise hospital fees for routine medical care In recent years, hospital systems have been buying up medical practices at a rapid pace. Now, patients getting routine medical care are being hit with high costs and unexpected hospital fees — even if they never visited a hospital. Private equity should not be allowed to own hospitals!

This is supposed to be resolved by the no surprises act. It’s insane to not know how much something will be until after the test/ appointment is over.

And most of that money isn't going back into the hospital/staff. Its going to private investors.

I cannot believe we are all just accepting for-profit medicine in the USA.

How much profit does the medical facility make? How much $$ does the CEO make?

Every other first world country spends far less per person on average and has universal health care for its citizens. How has big business convinced half the country that free healthcare is bad?

This overcharging is so inhumane. Not being able to afford healthcare in a country where very little is spent on infrastructure, protection from landlords, & making sure our food is safe is cruel.

Our daughter had a few appointments outpatient. The cost for the provider was $52, facility fee was $248 for EACH visit after insurance discount. Hospital wouldn’t budge

NYU Langone is charging me co-pay $4400 facility fee for my child’s endoscopy plus doctor’s bill plus anesthesiologist bill - total $9000 and we pay $2000 per month to Aetna. This country is insane.

Doesn’t go to the doctors. It goes to the CEOs. Husband is a surgeon and he didn’t get a raise for 8 years and got a 30% pay cut during covid that he had to earn back. Good thing we had savings.

It’s called hospital base clinics!!! Which sadly they had made it legal to double dip….in Arizona tons of hospital systems have started doing that

This is all directly related to the CEO’s of these hospitals making multi millions/billions running these companies. We pay these prices so the CEO’s can get an 8th house or a 3rd yacht. It’s bs.

This has been happening FOR YEARS, signed a chronic illness patient. Unless you're sick & medical bills take a majority of your income why would anyone care?! No one cares until it happens to them!

I don’t believe it’s because the ceo wants all the $$ it’s extremely expensive to operate a hospital. Always shop around if it’s not life threatening situation.

And the biggest problem is, we don’t know what the fees are until after the service is done. I can no longer afford to play Russian roulette with my bank account and I just don’t go to doctors.

Charging unnecessary fees should be illegal. But instead of universal healthcare, people voted for Trump. So you get what you vote for.
